Save As Functionality

Within the Personalization feature of iTopia, you have the option to save a view with a different name. This is also known as the Save As option.

The Save As action button offers different options depending on whether you are logged in as a regular or system user. Regular users are only given the option to enter a New Title for the view. System users are able to enter a New Title as well as a New View Name.

The following section elaborates on the difference between users with regular and system administrator rights:

  1. When you are logged into iTopia as a regular user, and you are Personalizing a view using the Save As option, the Save View As window opens. The Save View As contains one mandatory field: the 'New Title' field.

    • Regular users have the option to save personalized views with new names (titles). When a regular user hovers over the new view in their My Views folder in order to find out the Resource name for that view, the Resource displays as the original resource name with an extension of '.1' or '.2', etc.

    • For example, if a view has a resource name of 'ibis_abc' and user10 personalizes this view and gives it a new title of 'ABC FOR ME', when user10 hovers over the view 'ABC FOR ME', the resource name that displays will be 'ibis_abc.1'.

  2. When you are logged into iTopia as the 'system' user, and you are Personalizing a view (for Corporate use) using the Save As option, the Save View As window opens. The Save View As, in this case, contains two fields: the 'New Title' field and the 'New View Name' field.

    • The New Title field on the Save View As window is the new view's title/name and menu item name.

    • The New View Name is the new resource name for the view. The View Name for the current View is displayed in the New View Name field. System users can control the resource name for the new view. As a rule, you should append to the current views' View Name as it identifies the base table from which the original view was created. You should place a period after the original View Name and any other parts of the description should be separated by underscores if need be.

    • If, for example, the current View Name is 'ibis_ici1' and the New Title you enter is 'Product Master by Supplier', you should enter the New View Name as 'ibis_ici1.prod_mast_by_supp'. There is no need to enter the full New Title as part of the new View Name as long as it describes the New Title. Since views created in this manner are used as Corporate views, the View Name is the Resource that is assigned to a menu inside of the Resource Group module.

    • When a user hovers over the new view, the resource name that will display is the resource name entered in the New View Name field. Following our example, when a user hovers over the new Product Master by Supplier view, the resource name that displays is 'ibis_ici1.prod_mast_by_supp'.
