iTopia & IE Browser Issues
There may be times when the iTopia session you are currently running is not working correctly, or when specific fields within iTopia are not working the way you expect them to. Often the issues stem from your Microsoft Internet Explorer (IE) browser session rather than from iTopia itself. Here are some steps that you can take to try to resolve the issues before placing a call to the Tecsys SMB Support department:
- iTopia is only certified to run on Microsoft IE 6.0, 7.0, 8.0 or 9.0 versions.
- Clear your IE browser cache.
- Under Tools, select 'Internet Options'.
- On the 'Internet Options' window, ensure you are on the General folder.
- Under the 'Browsing History' section, click on the Delete button.
- Ensure the 'Temporary Internet Files' check box is selected and click Delete. (If you are running IE 7.0 or lower, click Delete Files under the 'Temporary Internet Files' option.)
- Shut down and restart the browser after the Cache is cleared.
- Review the 'Internet Browser Settings' outlined in the Compatibility Requirements document after you install Microsoft Windows updates or a Service Pack update.
- Disable all third party toolbars that you currently have running on your Browser. For example: Google, Yahoo, Skype, etc.
- Disable pop up blockers from Microsoft or any other third party (including virus protection software).
- Ensure that your browser is maximized to take up the entire real estate of your screen. Sometimes the windows will open in a smaller footprint forcing the vertical and horizontal scroll bars to appear.
- Determine how links from other programs are set to open in your browser session. iTopia behaves differently when the 'Tabbed Browsing Settings' are set to:
- Open links in a new window,
- Open links in a new tab in the current window,
OR
- Open links in the current tab or window.
This issue pertains to IE 7.0 and 8.0 only.
Note: There are circumstances where iTopia is programmed to override the default browser settings. For example, the system may force the work flow to stay in the same window or a new window may be forced to open (by the system) regardless of the browser settings.
- Flush your DNS Cache. Here are the steps to follow to flush the DNS cache:
- For Vista/Windows 7/Server 2008:
- Click Start.
- Select 'All Programs'.
- Select 'Accessories'.
- Right click on 'Command Prompt' and select "Run as administrator".
- In the Command Prompt window enter: ipconfig /flushdns
- Press Enter.
- Close the Command Prompt window.
- Open the Browser again.
- For XP:
- Click Start.
- Right click on 'Command Prompt' and select "Run as administrator".
-
In the Command Prompt window enter: ipconfig /flushdns
- Press Enter.
- Close the Command Prompt window.
- Open the Browser again.
- For laptop users, ensure your network connection is correct. You cannot have both the WiFi and Ethernet (or network cable) connected at the same time.
- When you are connected to the network with the Ethernet cable, you cannot have your WiFi turned on.
- When you are connected to the network remotely through WiFi, you cannot have the network cable connected to your laptop.
