User Master-License: Databases & License Types

In the User Master-License view, you assign Database(s) and License Type(s) to each user. PointForce iTopia offers the following Databases:

  • ibis - contains your PointForce Enterprise data that has been replicated to iTopia along with data generated and maintained in iTopia. The iBIS database contains all of the views available from the data stored in the tables. Note: For a typical user, enter the ibis database.

  • meta - contains information about information. There are a series of tables which define all of the databases used by iTopia. These metadata tables define the database itself, along with the tables, columns and relationships between the tables. This information is also used by iTopia to generate views of data that are stored in the iBIS database.

    • Generally, licenses to the meta database should only be applied to the 'system' user. If your company has purchased the 'Customer Relationship Management (CRM)' module for iTopia, you will need to apply a 'Read Only' license for the meta database to the user. This gives the user access to the User Master view which is required by specific fields in some of the CRM views.

  • etrac - this database is available only if it is purchased separately. The etrac database is the shipment tracking database that is used for companies that have their own trucks for deliveries. The database tracks shipments, routes, etc.

Licenses define the rights each user has to the database. A typical user can own the following License Types (depending on the Licenses obtained by your company):

  • read_only - gives limited access to Enterprise and iTopia meta data based views. This license type is assigned to users that only need to make data enquiries, for example only users requiring view-only access to the iTopia views should be granted a read_only license to the iBIS database.

    • The 'read_only' license allows users view-only access to the assigned database regardless of the permissions assigned to the views which are assigned to the user.

  • full - gives unlimited access to a particular view, subject to the security imposed by the system administrator at the role/user level. A full user license to the iBIS database implies access to the Enterprise views.

    • The 'full' license allows users to take advantage of the Create, Update and Delete functionality, where available, within the views, subject to the permissions imposed by the system administrator.

  • web_services - this license type is used when the user has a requirement to make web service requests from a third party application, such as Excel. Within PointForce iTopia, this option allows users to use the 'Edit with Excel' feature. Note: You should not apply the web_services license to users assigned the 'read_only' license as the user will be unable to utilize the Edit with Excel feature.
