User Master - License
The User Master-License is a table (md_user_license) in the User Management System (UMS). This table defines the databases that the user can access. Licenses also define the rights each user has to the databases.
- The following are databases available to PointForce iTopia clients:
- iBIS - this database contains your PointForce Enterprise data that has been replicated to iTopia along with data generated and maintained in iTopia. The iBIS database contains all of the views available from the data stored in the tables.
- meta - contains information about information. There are a series of tables which define all of the databases used by iTopia. These metadata tables define the database itself, along with the tables, columns and relationships between the tables. This information is also used by iTopia to generate views of data that are stored in the iBIS database.
- etrac - this database is available only if it is purchased separately. The etrac database is the shipment tracking database that is used for companies that have their own trucks for deliveries. The database tracks shipments, routes, etc.
- The following types of Licenses are available:
- full - unlimited access to a particular view, subject to the security imposed by the system administrator at the role/user level.
- A full user license to the iBIS database implies access to the Enterprise views. A general PointForce iTopia user is granted a full license to the iBIS database which means that the user can create, update and delete records in views that allow records to be maintained (like the Customer Master (SU13) view as opposed to the views in the Report Archive).
- A full user licenses to the meta database implies access to the meta data. Only users that need access to the meta data, like system administrators, should be granted a full license to the meta database. Users with full access to the meta database have access to the views found under the User Master table (including: User Master, User Master-Attribute/License/Permissions Summary/Restriction/Role, Role Master, Role Master-Permission/Permission Summary, Resource Master, Resource Master-Group Item), views found under the System Monitor menu (Session, Services Monitor, iBIS Queue Message, etc.), and views found under the Metadata Administration menu (Literal, Refresh Data Dictionary & Literals, View, Domain, Column, etc.).
Note:
The user is subject to both role and user restrictions, which means that even though the user is given Full access to the iBIS database, as an example, the user may not have the ability to update records in various views because of role and/or user restrictions.
- read_only - limited access to Enterprise views. This license type is assigned to users that only need to make enquires into the Enterprise data (i.e. users with read-only access cannot create update or delete records in any view).
- Only users requiring view-only access to the iTopia views should be granted a read_only license to the iBIS database.
- web_services - this license type is used when the user has a requirement to make web service requests from a third party application, such as Excel. Within PointForce iTopia, this option allows users to use the 'Edit with Excel' feature.
Note: You cannot modify information on the License grid. You must delete the record and then create a new record with the correct database/license information.
