HTML Page Templates (EC05)
WARNING: This program contains records and links that are vital to the operation of your e-Commerce website. Modifications to any records in EC05 may potentially cause the website to stop operating properly. If modifications are absolutely necessary, please ensure that you make a back up using the Copy Page feature before you proceed with the modifications. This program is designed to be used by Tecsys staff only.
The HTML Page Templates (EC05) program is at the centre of the PointForce (PFE) e-Commerce system. In order for individual pieces of information to be displayed on the Internet in a useable and organized manner, they must be arranged into the structure desired, and given the appropriate attributes (color, size, layout). This function is handled by the page templates defined in program EC05.
- Each web page that is in use on the web site is related to a Page Template that is maintained in this program. The structure of an EC05 template determines how the individual pieces of HTML language, programming code, graphics & images, and data from PFE is assembled and presented on the Internet.
- The page template contains all of the information required to build the web page in an Internet browser – from the top left corner of the screen to the bottom right corner – including each visible graphic, and each function/feature available.
- Changing templates will alter the presentation on the web site. One category of product may be displayed using larger images with detailed text descriptions, but another type of product could use another template that merely shows a single picture of the group of items, then a one-line description for each. Both of these displays present product-related information, but because the screen layout is different between them, they each require a different template.
- Changes to templates can be stored in various formats (or versions) so that switching from one template to another is simplified. This allows fast and easy updates to your site with minimal set-up required.
