Class Products

Class products are miscellaneous products that typically parallel a product line. They are used when you do not require Inventory Control or Sales Analysis at the product level, but do want to track the sale and estimated cost.

  • Class products are set up in Maintain Inventory Master (IM13) as Product Type=CP.

  • If a Detail Comment follows a Class Product on an order/invoice, that comment will overlay the product's description from IM13 (which is generic)on the printed forms and display screens. You should limit this Detail Comment to 35 characters to match the normal length of a product's description (this comment will not wrap). Additional Detail Comments can be added, if required, and they will word wrap.

  • QOH is reduced unless the assigned TAT code is flagged to not update inventory.

  • The Minimum Gross Margin Percentage assigned to the product in IM13/Pricing is used to calculate an approximate cost for the sale which is then treated as a Cost Override. The cost value will Debit COS and Credit Inventory (unless an override GL account is specified in the TAT code) OR it will Credit the Cost Override Variance GL account, if specified in Company Control Initialization (CC00/Invoicing).

Note: For an overview and examples of the impact of cost overrides on the General Leger, see the Cost Override Variance GL Examples topic.
