Notifications

The Notifications is a table (md_notification) in the User Management System (UMS). A notification is a message that is displayed to the user once they login or during a work session.

The Notification Bar is found at the same level on any PointForce Enterprise menu window as the breadcrumbs toolbar:

There are two types of notifications:

  • Prominent
  • Informational

Only the first type is permanently displayed in the Notification Bar or above the Quick Launch input text box. Prominent notifications can be dismissed at any time by clicking the window's Close icon.

In order to access the Notifications view, your user ID requires the UMS Administrator role. Note: The system user that is created when PointForce Enterprise is installed at your site can be used to access the Notifications view.

The following list defines every field available in the notifications (md_notification) table in alphabetical order:

  • Activated Time - the date and time at which the message was last activated. The date is entered in YYYY-MM-DD format, and the time is entered in HH:MM:SS format. You can also select a date from the calendar lookup. Selecting a date from the calendar lookup automatically assigns the current time to the date selected. You can edit this field as required.

  • Availability – identifies whether or not the notification is available. You cannot edit this field. The following options are available: Yes and No.

    • A value of 'Yes' indicates that the notification is available to the user.

    • A value of 'No' indicates that it is not.

    Note: The notification is available to the user when both the notification and the user share the same instance name

  • Created By - the name of the user who created the record you are viewing or maintaining. You cannot edit this field.

  • Created On - the date on which the record that you are creating or maintaining was created. you cannot edit this field.

  • Expiry Date and Time – the date and time at which the notification message expires. The date is entered in YYYY-MM-DD format, and the time is entered in HH:MM:SS format. You can also select a date from the calendar lookup. Selecting a date from the calendar lookup automatically assigns the current time to the date selected. You can edit this field as required.

  • Informational Display – an expression column that shows a preview of the Informational Display Text field as rendered by the browser.

  • Informational Display Text - the information or text that appears when you click on or hover over the Notification Preview icon . The My Notifications view is opened when you click on the preview icon.

    • Upon logging into PointForce Enterprise, informational notifications are displayed in a pop-up window for a short period of time and then disappear. In this case, you also have the option to close the pop-up window before the system does this automatically.

  • Instance Name - the name of the PointForce Enterprise environment in which the active notification(s) are entered.

    • The instance name must be provided for the notification. If the notification targets all instances, then the instance name to use is tecsys_default. Such notifications are called generic notifications. Generic notifications can be copied to specific instances using the Copy Notification action.

  • Is Active – indicates whether or not the notification is active. The following options are available: Yes (default) and No.

    • A value of Yes indicates that the message is active.

    • A value of No indicates that it is not.

    Note: Only active messages can be displayed.

  • Mobile Prominent Display - an expression column that shows a preview of the Mobile Prominent Display Text field as rendered by the browser.

  • Mobile Prominent Display Text - reserved for mobile device users. The information or text that is displayed in the page's Notification Bar at all times and on all pages until it becomes inactive.

  • Modification Counter - this field is not maintainable. The date and time a given record was last modified.

  • Modified By - this field is not maintainable. The user or system process that last modified a given record

  • Modified On - this field is not maintainable. The date on which the record you are attempting to retrieve or maintain was last modified.

  • Notification Name – the name you assign to the notification. The notification name is a unique key that identifies each notification.

  • Prominent Display - an expression column that shows a preview of the Prominent Display Text field as rendered by the browser.

  • Prominent Display Text - reserved for desktop users. The information or text associated with the prominent notification. The prominent notification displays in the Notification Bar at all times on all pages while the Notification is active.

  • Role Name – displays the role name to which the notification is applies. The Role Name is validated against the role master table. You can edit this field as required.

    • If a message is intended for all users, you can enter ums_user in this field as all users are assigned the ums_user role by default.
