Weigh Sequence

The 'Weigh Sequence' number logic is different in Packing Entry (PS30) and Shipping Entry (PS41). As a result, this topic is broken up into 2 sections.

A 'Weigh Sequence' number is associated with every Carton and Pallet in the Shipment. This number is used to identify the order in which the Cartons and/or Pallets are weighed. For example, if you have Carton A, Carton B and Carton C in the first Pack of the Shipment and you update the weight for Carton C first, then Carton B and finally Carton A, the Weigh Sequence is assigned as follows:

Carton ID   Weigh Seq
Carton C   0001
Carton B   0002
Carton A   0003

The Weigh Sequence also identifies the order in which the UCC-128 and the TMS labels print for the Pack (PS30) or for the Shipment (PS41). These labels are attached directly to each Carton in the Pack.

Note: The labels print in the order that the Cartons were weighed in to simplify the process of matching labels to Cartons.

The UCC-128 label is available through PS30/Quick Ship or PS41/Ship, and TMS labels are available through PS41/Ship.

Weigh Sequence in PS30:

  • All Cartons initially have a sequence number of 9999 assigned to them.

  • Once the Carton's weight is updated, the Weigh Sequence is also updated to a 4-digit number. The Weigh Sequence is assigned to each Carton according to the sequence in which the Carton's weight is updated.

  • The Carton's weight is obtained using one of the following methods:

    • Clicking Get Weight on the PS30/Carton Details folder.
    • Entering the weight on the PS30/Carton Weights and Measurements folder.
    • Clicking Get Weight on the PS30/Carton Weights and Measurements folder.
    • Entering a Product in PS30/Carton Details with a GTIN code that is flagged as 'Auto PS30 Update' in PO13 or IM13. The Weight and Measurements for the Carton are automatically updated with the 'Predefined Standard Ship Pack' Weight and Measurements from IM13/PO13.

  • Once the Weight is entered for the Carton, a Weigh Sequence number is automatically assigned to the Carton. The 9999 is replaced with a sequence number of 0001, 0002, etc.

  • The Weigh Sequence number remains with the Carton throughout the Packing process even when the Carton is emptied or when all Sales Orders are deleted from the Carton. The Weigh Sequence remains unchanged for the Carton.

  • To remove a Weigh Sequence number, you must use the Reset All option on the Carton Weights and Measurements folder. The Reset option resets the Weigh Sequence to 9999 for all Cartons in the Pack.

  • All Products packed into the same Carton have the same sequence number.

Weigh Sequence in PS41:

Weigh Sequence numbers assigned to Cartons in PS30 are reassigned to the Cartons in PS41 when more than one Pack is included in the Shipment. The Sequence number for every Shipment begins with 0001. Sequence numbers are assigned in the order each Pack and/or Pallet is added to the Shipment. The Weigh Sequence is reset to 0001 every time a Shipment is closed or deleted.

  • Creating a Shipment through Search Criteria (Folder 1):

    • If the Packs are added to the Shipment through the Search Criteria folder and no Weigh Sequence numbers were assigned in PS30 (i.e. the Cartons are not weighed), the Sequence numbers assigned to the Cartons in PS41/Carton Details will be 9999 for all Cartons.

    • If the Packs are added through the Search Criteria folder and the Cartons within the Packs have Weigh Sequence numbers assigned in PS30 (i.e. the Cartons are weighed), the Sequence numbers will be reassigned to the Cartons in PS41/Carton Details folder.

  • Creating a Shipment through Carton Details (Folder 2):

    • If the Cartons have not been weighed in PS30 and the Carton Update method is 'Prompt-Use Estimates' or 'Auto-Use Estimates', the sequence number will be automatically generated. This is because the weight is set for the Carton by moving the Estimated Weight to the Actual Weight. Note: The Estimated weight must be greater than zero.

    • If the Cartons have been weighed in PS30 and the Carton Update method is 'Prompt-Use Estimates' or 'Auto-Use Estimates', the Weigh Sequence numbers will be automatically regenerated (if there are multiple Packs in the Shipment). The Weights and Measurements from PS30 will not change.

    • If the Cartons have not been weighed in PS30 and the Carton Update method is 'Prompt-Use Actual' or 'Auto-Use Actual', the Weigh Sequence numbers will be set to 9999 as no weights are entered yet.

    • If the Cartons have been weighed in PS30 and the Carton Update method is 'Prompt-Use Actual' or 'Auto-Use Actual', the Weigh Sequence numbers will be automatically regenerated (if there are multiple Packs in the Shipment). The Weights and Measurements from PS30 will not change.

Note: If you remove a Carton that has been weighed, or if you remove an entire Pack in which the Cartons have been weighed, the Weigh Sequence numbers will not be used again in the current Shipment. If you add the Carton or Pack back to the Shipment (or additional Cartons are added from other Packs), the Weigh Sequence numbers assigned when the weights are entered will continue from the last Weigh Sequence number used for the Shipment.

    • If Cartons are added to a Pallet, the Weigh Sequence number for the Pallet is initially set to 9999 until a weight for the Pallet is entered in PS41/Pallet Details. Once the weight is entered, the sequence number will follow the last sequence number assigned to the Cartons on the Carton Detail folder.

    • If Cartons are added or removed from the Pallet, the Pallet's Weigh Sequence number will remain but the Weight and Measurements are reset to zero on the Pallet Details folder.

    • If all the Cartons are removed from the Pallet by clicking Clear Pallet, and then the Cartons are added back to the Pallet, the Pallet Weigh Sequence number is retained, but the weight be reset to zero.

    • If the Pallet is emptied by clicking Empty Pallet, the Pallet's Weigh Sequence number is reset to 9999.
