Unit of Measure Codes (IM09)

Unit of Measure Codes are defined in IM09. Unit of measure codes are assigned to:

  • Products in Maintain Inventory Master (IM13)
  • Suppliers in Maintain Purchasing Information (PO13)
  • Price lists in Maintain Price Lists (IM18)
  • Future price lists in Maintain Future Price Lists (IM21)

Unit of Measure Codes are used as follows:

  • As stock keeping unit of measure codes describing the way in which product quantities are expressed. Examples include: quantity on hand, quantity on reserve, or quantity on back order. Customer order quantities are expressed in this unit of measure. Inventory balances are reported or displayed using this unit of measure.
  • As purchasing unit of measure codes describing the way in which the 'on order' quantity of a product is expressed. For example, Purchase Order quantities are expressed in this unit of measure.
  • As price per codes describing the way in which the purchase or selling price of a product is expressed. Each code is assigned a price factor used to extend an Invoice, Purchase or Sales Order detail line.

Setting up a Unit of Measure Code:

  1. Enter a code in the Unit of Measure field. This code can be a maximum of 4 characters in length. You may use an alpha-numeric combination.

  2. Enter a value in the Pricing Factor field that is assigned to a unit of measure code and is used to extend the Invoice, Purchase or Sales Order detail line. The Pricing Factor is designed to convert the selling/purchase price into a price that matches the selling/purchasing units. The default value for this field is '1'.   3. Enter a description of the Unit of Measure Code in the Description field. The description can be a maximum of 25 characters in length.

  4. Enter a description of the Unit of Measure Code in a second language, such as French, in the Secondary Description field. The description can be a maximum of 25 characters in length. This is an optional field.

  5. Click Update to add this code to the system.

Unit of Measure Codes (IM09)

GL Codes are defined in IM09 and are assigned to products in Maintain Inventory Master (IM13). Every product is assigned a GL Code. A product's GL Code is one of the factors used to determine the GL Control Accounts updated as a result of posting customer Invoices, Inventory Adjustments or Stock Receipts.

The GL Control Accounts for invoice postings are maintained in Company Control (CC00/Invoicing/General Ledger), and the GL Control Accounts for Inventory Adjustments are maintained in Enter Inventory Adjustment GL (IM44).

Setting up GL Codes:

  1. Enter a code in the GL Code field. This code can be a maximum of 2 characters in length. You may use an alpha-numeric combination.

  2. Enter a description of the GL Code in the Description field. The description can be a maximum of 30 characters in length.

  3. Click Update to add this code to the system.

The following table outlines the functionality of each button on the Unit of Measure Codes folder:

Update Update Saves the information entered for the current unit of measure code.
Delete Delete Deletes the current unit of measure code.
Note: You cannot delete a unit of measure code if the code is assigned to a product in IM13.
New New All fields on this folder clear and you can begin adding a new unit of measure code record.
