Flyers (EC10)

Additional Information
Copy Language Option

The Flyers (EC10) folder in Catalogue Publishing is used to configure the way in which flyers are presented to someone browsing your website. You can create, edit and delete the flyer related files in EC10/Flyers.

  • Note: Because PointForce Enterprise (PFE) E-commerce programs link directly into the PFE back-office software, in order for a flyer to be configured for display on your website, it must first be created in Maintain Price Lists (IM18) with the Type field set to 'Flyer (Type 5)'.

When you click on the Flyers link and you have multiple active flyers, you will see a listing of active flyers. This web page is known as the "flyer index page". To see an example of the flyer index page, click here.

  • If you only have one active flyer, the flyer index page is not displayed. In this case, when a web site user clicks on the Flyer link, the system automatically displays the 'Flyer Details Page' (see 'Flyer Template' below) which lists the active flyer and the associated page links.

The following list defines the fields on the Flyers folder of EC10:

  • Product Flyer - enter or select from the query a Product Flyer to be published. Flyers are maintained as price lists in Maintain Price Lists (IM18). You must enter a Flyer that already exists in IM18.

  • Flyer Template - identifies the HTML Page template from HTML Page Templates (EC05) that is used to display page 000 of each flyer. Page 000 is also used to identify the thumbnail image of the selected flyer and all pages within the flyer. We'll refer to this page as the 'flyer detail page'.

On the web site, the flyer details page displays when you click on a flyer from the Flyer Index page or when you click on the Flyer link if you have only one active flyer. To view an example of the flyer detail page on the web site, click here.

    • This field is enabled when you are setting up page 000 for the flyer.

    • You can assign a Thumbnail Image and/or Short Description for each flyer.

    • The default Flyer Template value most often used is: FLYER PAGES G03 F14.

  • Flyer List Template - identifies the HTML Page template from EC05 that is used to display the details of the product(s) on the flyer. We'll refer to this page as the 'flyer products page'.

On the web site, the flyer products page displays when you click on a page from the Flyer Detail Page or when you click on the Flyer link if you have only one active flyer. To view an example of the flyer products page on the website, click here.

    • This field is enabled when you are setting up page 001 or higher for the flyer.

    • The default Flyer List Template value most often used is: FLYER PRODUCTS G03 F14.

  • Flyer Product Template - identifies the HTML page template from EC05 that is used to display details of the product on the flyer. We'll refer to this page as the 'product detail page'.

On the web site, the product detail page displays when you click on a product (or the Product Info) link from the flyer products page. To view an example of the product detail page on the web site, click here.

    • This field is enabled when you are setting up page 001 or higher for the flyer.

    • The Flyer Product Template value most often used is: PRODUCT G03 F14.

  • Display Sort - allows you control the order in which the flyers appear when published on the 'flyer index page'. This field is optional. The system sort is alpha/numeric: Product Flyer codes beginning with numeric values display before Product Flyer codes beginning with alpha values. Note: This field is based on the Product Flyer code and not on the Flyer Display Name.

    • If you use the Display Sort, enter one value per Flyer. We recommend that you leave 'space' between the records so that extra records (flyers) can be inserted later. For example, enter 1, 2 and 3 for the first 3 Flyers you want sorted. In the future, you can add 1.1, 1.2, 2.1, 2.2, etc. as required.

  • Date From - displays the date entered in the 'Start Date' field from the IM18/Price Lists-General folder for the current flyer. This field is for information purposes only and can only be edited in IM18.

  • Date To - displays the date entered in the 'End Date' field from the IM18/Price Lists-General folder for the current flyer. This field is for information purposes only and can only be edited in IM18.

  • Active (Flyer) - select this check box to allow the flyer to be published in any active language. Languages are maintained in Maintain Company Languages (CC17). When this check box is not selected, the flyer record is prevented from being published in any language.

  • Display on Internet - select this check box to allow the flyer to be published on the Internet. When this check box is not selected, the flyer is NOT published on the Internet.

    • Note: If a flyer is flagged as active, but the 'Display on Internet' check box is not selected, the flyer will not display on the e-Commerce website.

  • Display on Intranet - select this check box to allow the flyer to be published on the Intranet (internal website). When this check box is not selected, the flyer is NOT published on the Intranet.

    • Note: If a flyer is flagged as active, but the 'Display on Intranet' check box is not selected, the flyer will not display on the intranet site.

  • Page - the Page field has two functions:

    1. If you want to distinguish the current flyer from others, enter page number 000 in this field and associate a Thumbnail Image and/or a Short Description to the record. Text and images attached to page zero represent the complete flyer rather than a specific page of that flyer. To view an example of the Thumbnail Images and Short Descriptions on the flyer index page of the website, click here.

    2. When a flyer is created in IM18, a page number is assigned to each product. By identifying the page on which products are shown on the flyer, the e-Commerce program can display each flyer page separately, with individualized styling and structure.

      • Enter a page number in this field for each product from the flyer that is to appear on the website. The page number can be up to 3 digits in length and must match the page numbers defined in IM18 for the current flyer.

      • The page number field provides a link between the IM18 Flyer and the website flyer, and therefore, defines the products from the flyer that are displayed on the website.

      • For each page on the flyer, a unique Full Size Image and/or a Long Description can be added. Full Size Images appear as "banners" at the top of each page (001 and higher) of the flyer. To view an example of a Full Size Image on a flyer product page of the website, click here.

  • Language - enter or select from the query the language that the thumbnail image or full size image identified in the section(s) below are published in. Note: You must create a flyer record using the Primary Language of your company before any alternate language records can be created.

    • You can disable an alternate language flyer record by clearing the Active (Language) check box.

    • You cannot disable the primary language record. The flyer catalogue publishing record itself can be disabled by clearing the Active (Flyer) check box. This disables all the associated language records for the current flyer catalogue publishing record.

  • Flyer Display Name - enter the name of the flyer to be published, expressed in the Language of the current record. You can enter a maximum of 128 alpha numeric characters in this field. The information in this field displays on the web page in the following locations:

    • As the flyer name for the entire flyer (on the 'flyer index page'). The Flyer Display Name is also a link that takes the user to the 'flyer detail page'.
    • As the flyer name on the 'flyer detail page'.
    • As the flyer name that is used in the web page bread crumb information that displays in the title bar section on the website.

  • Active (Language) - select this check box to allow the flyer record to be published in the current Language. You must select this check box for the primary company language.

    • If you need to prevent the flyer record from being published in a secondary language, ensure this check box is not selected for that language. This may be required when a record is awaiting language translation.

    • In this case, users of the alternate language will receive the Thumbnail Image or Full Size Image information from the record in the primary company language.

Note: If you use the EC10 Copy Language option to copy the current flyer catalogue publishing record from one language to another language, the Translate check box is automatically selected and the Active (Language) check box is cleared for the new record. For more information on the Copy Language option, click here.

  • Translate - this is a memo only field for database maintenance and/or conversion purposes. This field is to be used by Tecsys staff or database administrators only.

    • Note: If you use the EC10 Copy Language option to copy a current flyer publishing record from one language to another language, the Translate check box is automatically selected and the Active (Language) check box is cleared. For more information on the Copy Language option, click here.

    • When you select the Translate check box, the following message displays: "Do you wish to mark this record as inactive while it requires translation? Yes/No". If you select Yes, then the Active (Language) check box is cleared.

  • In the Thumbnail Image/Full Size Image sections:

    • Image - the page templates (set up in EC05) can be set up to use thumbnail images or full size images. These two sections are where you specify the image files. The images are typically stored in the "Products/Flyers" directory of your web page root directory.

(In a Windows environment, an example of the root directory is E:\0\your customer code\Client\www\Products\Flyers; an example from a Unix/Linux environment is /0/your customer code/Client/www/Products/Flyers.)

      • Thumbnail - specify the name of the thumbnail image file representing a flyer. Thumbnail images are used on the flyer index page and on the flyer detail page (page 000). To view an example of the Thumbnail Images and Short Descriptions on the flyer index page of the website, click here.

      • Full Size - specify the name of the full size image file representing a page in the flyer. Full Size images are used for page 001 and higher. Full Size images display as a banner at the top of a flyer page. To view an example of a Full Size Image on a flyer product page of the website, click here.

    • Pixel Height/Width - you must specify the height and width for the flyer image in pixels in order for the image to display on your web page. You can determine the dimensions of an image from the software that you use to view the image; for example, with the image file open in the software, select the 'Image Properties' or 'Image Information' option from one of the menus.

      • Thumbnail - specify the height and width, in pixels, of the thumbnail image entered.

      • Full Size - specify the height and width, in pixels, of the full size image entered. Many different dimensions are compatible with the standard flyer template. We recommend that you use a test image to determine the dimensions you prefer.

    • Short Description (for Thumbnail Image) - enter a short description of the flyer that may be published on the flyer list page beside the image. This is an optional field. You can enter up to a maximum of 1024 alpha numeric characters in this field.

    • Long Description (for Full Size Images) - enter a longer description of the flyer page number that may be published beside the image on the flyer page 001 (and higher). This is an optional field. You can enter up to a maximum of 4096 alpha numeric characters in this field.

  • The List Box in the bottom section of the window, displays the following columns of information for the current Product Flyer entered:

    • Language
    • Active
    • Translate
    • Display Name
    • Thumbnail Image

The following table outlines the functionality of each button on the EC10 window:

Button Label Icon Functionality
Update Update Saves the information entered for the current flyer publishing record.
Delete Delete Deletes the information entered for the current page.
New New Clears all of the fields allowing you to add a new flyer publishing record.
Delete / Trash Can Trash Can Deletes the current flyer publishing record including all the language related 'sub-records'. The following confirmation message displays: "Delete Header and all its details? Yes/No". Find Find Allows you to browse to the "Product\Flyers" directory to find an image file. You can create sub-directories below the 'Flyers' directory, but you can only browse the specific path listed here. The system expects image files for your e-Commerce website to be stored in the "Product\Flyers" directory. Note: In a Windows environment, an example of the root directory is E:\0\your customer code\Client\www\Products\Flyers; an example from a Unix/Linux environment is /0/your customer code /Client/www/Products/Flyers.
View View Allows you to view the image selected using the Windows image viewer associated with the file extension at the end of the Image file.
Edit Edit Opens an Editor window that provides you with a separate window to edit the description. On the Editor window:
  • You can use the Import button to browse your local file directories to import the contents of an existing document.
  • You can use the Export button to export the description information to a file on your local directory.
  • You can use the Copy button to copy the description onto the clipboard for use in another catalogue publishing record.
  • When you finish using the Editor, click OK to close the Editor window. When you return to the folder, be sure to click Update, otherwise you will lose your changes when you select another record.
