Circular References
The Check for Circular References option in the Category Relations (EC11) program allows you to verify that the parent/child relationships set up in EC11 are correct.
- For example, you can ensure that a Parent Category (Acme Contract) is not assigned as a category within a Child Category (Pillows) under itself (Acme Contract):
Running the "Check Circular References" option:
- Select the "Check Circular References" option found on the menu bar under the Options menu.
- The Check category structure for circular references window opens. Click Start to initiate the system check.
- If a circular reference is detected, the following message displays: "A circular reference has been detected for category: (category name displays). Please correct this error in EC11, and then run this test again. OK".
- Click OK to close the message window.
- When no circular references are detected, the following message displays: "Safe category structure verified. OK". Click OK to close the message window and to end the Check for Circular References routine.
Note: You can perform the same circular reference check using the "Check for multi-level circular category references" option in the Search Word/Indexes Diagnostic (EC71) program.
